The Kuvasz is thought to have been brought into Hungary by Turkish refugees from the Mongols in 1200 A.D. Kuvasz is the Turkish word for protector. King Matyas I was a Turkish king in the late 1400s who did not trust people, only his Kuvasz. The Kuvasz may date back to dogs owned by nomadic Tibetan tribes around 2000 B.C.
